DAYS 22-27 MARYLAND AND GETTYSBURG

DAYS 22-27
We spent 5 days in Westminster, Maryland with Barbie and Bryan (daughter and son-in-law). Here is their beautiful home and garden. We also enjoyed their pets: Bandit and Rascal are Shelties who can do some pretty amazing tricks. Their cats were a little friendlier toward us this year. We think it’s because we didn’t have Angel around to torment them.

We traveled to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania for a day. What a great history lesson. At the Welcome Center, we watched an IMAX film and toured the museum. In the museum, we heard the Gettysburg Address performed by Sam Waterson (Law and Order). If you know who he is, you know he sounds just like Abraham Lincoln would have sounded.

Then we did the tour around the battlefield on our own examining monuments and cannons. We were in awe of the massive numbers of soldiers who fought there over a three day period. Over 51,000 were dead, wounded or missing!

Bob and I went antiquing in Frederick, MD. We do enjoy that pastime.
We went to Barbie and Bryan’s friends’ house for the 4th of July.

Thanks for blogging. I feel as if I was there with you seeing the wonderful sites of our starting of this great country and the sadness of Gettysburg when our country was torn apart by fighting. The Amish-Mennonite are so interesting. You know that we have a restaurant in Etowah that I believe is owned by a Mennonite family. I've heard that the food is great. We'll have to check it out.

Enjoy your adventure
